Commentary

I have spent two hours this morning reviewing cfengine scripts.  I'm not all that savvy in cfengine, but it would save me a metric shyt-ton of time if these yo-yos would comment their code! Don't they teach that any more?  It's like trying to use a treasure map covered in white-out.

Ngh.  I guess code maintenance is up there with flint-knapping as an obsolete skill.

Real Programmers don't comment their code. If it was hard to write, it should be hard to understand. Real Programmers don't do documentation. Documentation is for simps who can't figure out the listing.

In the Java course I finished in 2000, we were taught to comment. But coding was exhausting, and I can see why people would get lazy about anything that wasn't purely vital. Either that or they're trying to wield power by making the code hard for anyone else to read.

Uh-oh, real programmers can write FORTRAN in any language. :(

Was the code at least kind of readable?

I've heard about bad coders like that, mostly from instructors talking about what you shouldn't be as a coder...

Personally, I've found that writing one comment for each function and giving them all sensible names works fairly well for myself. So how often do you put comments in?
