Seconded. Even with all the godless, pernicious, banned, evil, unwholesome, *pant pant* books on the shelves, libraries are the epitome of cheap entertainment and free education.

When the budget gets lean, the first public services to get whacked are schools and libraries. You might as well rivet down a barrier over the people in low-class jobs. Which means they will never get the higher-class jobs which pay more taxes which fund libraries and schools.

No one ever says, We spent billions last year on election campaigns, why don't we funnel a little of that into the public budget?
