The far side of the greyhound.

Up till almost midnight last night, taking Tuffi to the vet again (and again) to get his tail bandaged again.  This was his third and fourth trips.

Tail skin is too thin to suture or cauterize, skin glue doesn't hold, and 'happy tails' move around and tear the scabs.  So the tip of his tail is bandaged, wrapped in gauze, taped, and covered with a plastic syringe cover to keep him from wagging it against the wall.

My dog has a thagomizer.

Probably a Really Dumb Idea (TM), but hardware stores should carry those foam tubes used to insulate heating pipes. Would this do as a tail protection?

He'd probably chew throw it and swallow bits of foam. Plus, if it's an open tube, the other dogs will sniff the blood and help him chew on it.

You're right, I forgot about the toothy end of the dog.

My brother's old dog had a similar problem with his tail bleeding.

Problem was, he was such a happy dog, he'd end up like a sanguinary lawn sprinkler.

Tuffi got a tube over his bandage, and I loaded him in the car to take him home. He jumpd the back seat, caught his tail between the seat back and the side of the car, and pulled the tube right off. I didn't know this until I got home, so we went right back to the vet, and while they were taping the tube back on (a lot tighter), I was cleaning blood off the seats and back deck of the car.

The vets call it 'Happy Tail'. Waggers gotta wag :)
