Original Doubtful Guest

One more week, and a weekend with The Wife in Texas visiting her mom.

The lip is getting better in most ways, but is even more annoying than before at the moment. Do they use wire sutures? There's something that feels metallic sticking out of my lip, and it BOTHERS me, it's like having a fishhook stick in my lip. If this is what a lip piercing feels like, I wonder that people don;t go mad from the annoyance. OTOH, the internal lump is smaller every day, and I can use my CPAP machine again.

Which doesn't explain why I'm getting four hours of sleep a night again. My brain is trying to kill me, as Calvin would say.

I have a long laundry list of chores, but one of our Scouts finally called for help for his Eagle project. Since my job in the troop is prodding Scouts into getting their Eagles, I was kind of bound by previous promises.

So, here I am, going up to Antonio's house at 9. Phone call, can I make it 10? Sure. Phone call, can I make it 10:30? Son, you are wasting more and more of my day, and we haven't even started work yet.

The project is to make and post bird boxes for the regional parks district. I don't know who specified 1/2" inch redwood for the boxes, but it's too thin, splits too easily, and is too bloody soft for decent work. Add to this the changes the Scout has made in the base plan, and his disinclination to be concerned about things like squaring corners and measuring where to put screw holes, and you end up with ten very idiosyncratic (i.e., no two alike) bird boxes. EBRParks needs some truly bohemian birds to move into these spaces.

I was hoping for a four-hour project, we were there for eight hours. Thank Mogg I brought a full toolbox, or we'd have been driving 1.5 inch screws with our fingernails. He'll have to post the boxes with someone else, some other weekend, but, Heckfire, he's 90% done with the work on his Eagle project, so YAY ANTONIO! The chores list goes until tomorrow, I guess. It's worth it, to get one more Eagle.

Well, finishing up at 6 PM Saturday evening pretty much kills my plan of treating myself to a decent dinner out, because I didn't feel like waiting until 7 just to get seated. Cheap crummy fast Chinese and raid the fridge for vegs. Big treat.

Just spent a half-hour writing up and explanation for a friend on how I use GIMP to do my weird little webcomic. Too tired to do anything, too awake to sleep, not hungry enough to make a real meal, bored and tired and hungry enough to want SOMETHING TO EAT DAMMIT.

Everybody look at your pants!

Well. It seems music yet hath charms to amuse the bedraggled whatsit.

The iTunes shuffle put up "Mad John" while I was posting that last entry, and a more perfect tune I couldn't have asked for.

Now, you must know that I am a competent soprano recorder player. I can't read music worth three loud shouts on a hill, but I am GOOD at playing by ear, IMHO, and can usually play along with a song if I've heard it before.

So the iTunes playlist puts up "Safety Dance", the part of my brain responsible for random numbers issues a priority interrupt, and in moments I'm jamming with Adam Ant and feeling much sillier about life.

Thank Mogg for music and silliness and the random iTunes shuffle.
