It's Not My Fault.

It's Not My Fault:  One TV at the gym is always tuned to ESPN.  They were showing basketball playoffs, and there was a whoop-it-up pregame party going on.  The caption crawl announced

JOHN ELWAY WORKS UP THE CROWD FOR THE DENVER NUGGETS

which I read as

JOHN ELWAY WORKS UP THE CROWD FOR THE DENVER MUPPETS

and I'm thinking "Space Jam II: Bugs Vs. Kermit".

This Isn't My Fault Either:  there's a ten-foot-tall pillar at the top of the stairs to the Embarcadero BART station which has big color advertising posters.  About a third of them are booze, a couple are movies, usually they're for clothing.

The new one is a rather curvaceous brunette woman in a bikini, climbing out of a pool, with the caption

MATTHEW (someone) FOR H&M

and I'm thinking, "Well, you don't look like a Matthew any more, but it's OK, you're in San Francisco, but you should know it's spelled S&M".

Really.  It's not my fault.

So many times I have read something hastily, and that which filtered through to my consciousness was either unprintable, or induced paroxysms of amusement, or both. And no, it wasn't my fault.

I take comfort in knowing that there was a period in recent history when spell-checking software was not as sophisticated as it is today... see this delightful article on the Cupertino effect.

Well, that's one way to make the Muppets even deader than they already are. (I'm not sure the Looney Tunes could be deader.)

I'm not sure which of your reports is funnier.

People still watch Bugs Bunny. Who watches Ren and Stimpy reruns?

I'm not talking about reruns; I'm talking about newer efforts. Back in Action wasn't so hot, and "Loonatics Unleashed" got panned worse.

A friend of mine from college used to write ads for Spike TV. When "The Ren & Stimpy Show" got released on DVD, he wrote a humorous script, but the network favored more of a documentary approach. That was the clearest sign to me that R&S was a product of its time -- a pioneer, but not a classic.

Where can I find Bugs Bunny? I've been thinking about Looney Tunes lately.

If you don't want to buy the DVD collections, he's all over YouTube.
