Shopping

I'm almost out of return address labels.

My printer's been dead for a month and some now, so I have to go buy a new printer so I can make return address labels.

Is that not the most pathetic justification for shopping that the world has ever seen?

I hate shopping.  I have had to wait until I ran out of something before I did something about it.  The computer itself is five years overdue for a replacement, but the frustration level has not reached a high enough value to make me fork out all those clams to replace it.

Truly pathetic.

OK, M and TJ, you can stop snickering at your dad now.

I think you'll admit that your plight is less drastic than being in the Navy and being right out of requisition slips to get requisition slips...

Reminds me of the Dilbert series where his computer dies, and he needs to get a new one, but the requisition process is completely computerized ...

I was remembering part of a McHale's Navy when Ensign Parker ran out of requisition slips, which meant he couldn't get any more requisition slips...

The trouble is, I've known far too many "support" people just like this.

Hey, that's the number one concern of all proper Dilbertian organizations - Work Avoidance. If you do it extremely well, you can graduate to Work Evasion. BT, DT.

If you take on a trouble ticket, it means your completion recod is less than 100%, which shows up on the organization's status report, which brings down the wrath of your manager's supervisor's director. If you don't take on any jobs, your completion rate is 100%, and everyone gets a bonus.

Yes, yes, that makes sense, in a hellish, satanic sort of way...

I always get return labels from organizations that I send money to. They keep begging for more, but I don't have to return money to them. I even get labels from other orgs, but that's ok.

The SPCA, Drs w/out Borders, etc. have been neglecting me :)

Me too. I save about half of them -- the ones that look appropriate for my character.

Not even a snicker uttered over here. At some point I need a haircut, new dishwasher, pants, Camille needs a maintenance check, bike hooks for garage, connected dpneedles for wider scarves, french press coffee maker to kill the 4L behemoth Lee owns....
